Local insight: The VND 20,000 and VND 500,000 are so similar in colour. Remember that the VND 500,000 note is just a bit larger.

if you’re wondering how much money to withdraw at the ATM to see you through, check below for some of the average costs that you will find in Ho Chi Minh city, Hanoi city price a just a bit more expensive

CURRENCY EXCHANGE

US dollars are welcome in places frequented by tourists but you will most likely be offered a less than favourable rate.

Most hotels offer the same rate as banks but may charge an extra fee. Though there are currency exchange shops in the tourist areas, head to a bank to get an offical rate.

Don’t exchange too much at one time as you will get a less than favourable rate when selling back your Dong. Generally larger bills like 100 USD give a better rate than smaller notes like 10 USD or 5 USD

Local insight: make sure your foreign bank notes are clean and crisp with no tears or writing. they will not be accepted otherwise.
